About the role

Works under supervision of the Shop Foreman to carry out work assignments and ensure tasks are completed by other personnel. Serves as working leader of 3 or more employees in accomplishing trades and labor work.

Provides technical guidance and assistance to participants on operation and installation of automotive components and systems (U.S. and foreign vehicles). Checks out tools and equipment to customers and may collect amount for user fees. Maintains records pertaining to tools and equipment.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Direct Deposit and Social Security Card is required
• Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position
• A one-year probationary period may be required
• Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check
• Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2 to include a medical examination
• Incumbent may be required to complete a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card for physical access to federally-controlled facilities

Working Conditions

Most of the work is done inside the shop, which is generally well-lit, heated and ventilated. The training leader may occasionally work outside or in areas that are drafty, cold and poorly lit.

May be required to lift parts and equipment that weigh up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift items weighing about 50 pounds during the course of the demonstrations.

Must be able to work a schedule that may include working nights and weekends and possible holidays.

Qualifications

Must have sufficient knowledge of the overhaul, repair, and installation of a variety of components, accessories, parts, assemblies; the ability to show proper techniques to be followed.

Skill in observing the participants in the automotive crafts activities and determine their ability to accomplish tasks initiated.

Must be 18 years of age by appointment date to meet state requirements.

Pay

This job falls under the Federal Wage Schedule (FWS) pay system. FWS employees earn overtime pay for working more than 8 hours in a day or more than 40 hours in a week -- whichever gives the employee more benefit.

Regular full-time, regular part-time, and regularly scheduled flexible employees may receive Sunday premium pay for working on Sundays.

Employees may also be eligible to receive extra pay if the majority of their scheduled hours falls after 3:00 PM.
