Automotive Technician (General Service, C, B & A Levels)
This is an onsite, hourly position located in our Wheaton Car Care Facility.
Schedule
Service center hours are Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m.–6:00 p.m., and Saturday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Schedule and shift assignments depend on the technician position and level.
About the Role
ACG Car Care Technicians complete routine scheduled maintenance service on automobiles and trucks, as directed by a manager or Service Advisor. They perform basic automotive repair, adjustments, and maintenance procedures, including oil changes, tire replacement and repairs, and general vehicle maintenance.
Responsibilities
- General Service Tech:
- Drive vehicles into service bays, prepare them for, and complete digital vehicle inspection
- Perform general automotive maintenance and repairs
- Test drive vehicles and prepare vehicles for delivery to customers after necessary repairs and maintenance
- Maintain a clean and organized shop to ensure a positive customer experience
- Learn from Technician A, B, and C colleagues to advance your career
- Technician C: All General Service Tech responsibilities plus:
- Perform automotive repairs, adjustments, and maintenance procedures as outlined on repair orders
- Complete fluid exchanges, alignments, brake services, basic repair, and maintenance services
- Technician B: All Technician C responsibilities plus:
- Work with, mentor, and train less experienced Technicians
- Perform advanced repair and maintenance services
- Technician A: All Technician B responsibilities plus:
- Work with, mentor, and train less experienced Technicians
- Complete electrical repairs, diagnostic repairs, and drivability diagnostics
Requirements
- Minimum Qualifications (All Service Techs):
- High School diploma, GED, or technical school certification
- Valid driver’s license
- Mechanical aptitude and knowledge of automotive and/or truck systems, tools, and technical resources
- Ability to independently perform basic repairs and maintenance of automobiles and trucks
- Understanding of proper use of equipment and tools, and commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work area
- Ability to provide exceptional customer service and improve customer service scores
- Preferred Qualifications (General Service Tech):
- G1-Auto Maintenance & Light Repair certification
- State inspection certificate (where applicable)
- AC 609 Certification
- Minimum Qualifications (Technician C): All General Service Tech requirements plus:
- Minimum of 6 months relevant experience in automotive repair or completion of a formal automotive training program
- Preferred Qualifications (Technician C): All General Service Tech preferred qualifications plus:
- ASE Certifications (or equivalent), including A4-Suspension & Steering and A5-Brakes
- AC 609 Certification
- Minimum Qualifications (Technician B): All Technician C requirements plus:
- 3 or more years of experience repairing vehicles at a dealership or automotive center
- Preferred Qualifications (Technician B): All Technician C preferred qualifications plus:
- Two additional ASE certifications (or equivalent)
- AC 609 Certification
- Minimum Qualifications (Technician A): All Technician B requirements plus:
- 5 or more years of experience repairing vehicles at a dealership or automotive center
- Preferred Qualifications (Technician A): All Technician B preferred qualifications plus:
- ASE Certifications (A1 – A8) with Master Technician designation or equivalent combination of certifications
- ASE certification L1-Advanced Engine Performance Specialist
- AC 609 Certification
Work Environment
- May experience loud noises and odors intermittently in the shop environment
- Involves standing, walking, and normal physical mobility, including reaching, grabbing, lifting, and carrying automotive parts and equipment (up to approximately 80 pounds)
- Must have own tools appropriate for your skill level
- Must be able to work in heat, as some locations do not have air conditioning (fans are present in all facilities)
- Must be able to work on your feet in a concrete facility for the entire work shift
Pay
- General Service Tech: $15 - $17 hourly
- Technician C: $17 - $25 hourly, based on production
- Technician B: $40,000 - $70,000+; hourly base with a weekly production bonus opportunity
- Technician A: $65,000 - $110,000+; hourly base with a weekly production bonus opportunity
Pay rates are based on experience and include annual bonus eligibility. ACG utilizes a geographic pay differential as part of the base salary compensation program.
