Automotive Technician Apprentice ll - Automotive Tech SR.

This position can be filled as an Automotive Technician Apprentice II, Automotive Tech, or Automotive Technician Sr. depending on the qualifying candidate's experience. The role is based in Beaumont, Texas, and may require up to 25% travel.

About the Role

Perform all tasks and meet experience, special, and physical qualifications for the Automotive Hydraulic Technician Apprentice I and II levels for all Entergy-owned, leased, and rented equipment. Lead or assist in complex repairs and maintenance, working with minimal supervision and supporting more complicated tasks alongside qualified technicians, supervisors, or vendor representatives (e.g., Altec, ITL). Travel safely to job sites in an Entergy vehicle and work with customers to complete tasks with minimal interruption to line activity. Advancement occurs upon meeting applicable qualifications, experience, and completing the appropriate Skills Assessment.

Responsibilities

• Use diagnostic tools and schematics to identify and correct issues with electrical systems, engines, transmissions, and aerial systems on Entergy-owned, leased, or rented equipment.
• Read codes, perform function tests, and interpret results with general ability (not expert-level).
• Perform basic automotive electrical tasks, including using a DVOM (Digital Volt-Ohm Meter) for voltage, resistance, and continuity testing.
• Make routine and necessary repairs to internal combustion engines, exhaust systems, and emission control systems, including manufacturer-specific tools (e.g., turbo repairs, fuel injectors, EGR systems).
• Repair chassis-related steering and suspension systems.
• Search electronic sources (e.g., FLEET, manufacturer websites, online manuals) for equipment identification, inspection/repair procedures, fluid capacities, and torque specs.
• Accurately use task-specific mechanical tools (e.g., torque wrench, dial indicator, dial caliper).
• Diagnose and repair automotive HVAC systems.
• Perform basic cutting, welding, and fabrication tasks.
• Support off-system storm response, accompanied by an Automotive Hydraulic Technician.

Requirements

• Meet all qualifications for the Automotive Hydraulic Technician Apprentice I role.
• Minimum of two years of experience as an Automotive Hydraulic Technician Apprentice I or equivalent experience in related work, or an automotive/related certification from an accredited institution.
• Complete all manufacturer computer-based training assigned by Fleet Management within 12 months.
• Hold or obtain IFPS certification:
  • Apprentice II or above: Obtain within 6 months of employment (company pays for 2 attempts; additional attempts at employee’s expense).
  • Apprentice I: Obtain within 12 months of employment.
• Obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License within the first 6 months of employment (for Apprentice I or above).
• Obtain automotive HVAC certification within 12 months through an EPA-approved source (e.g., ASE or MACS).
• Complete manufacturer bucket, digger, and PDM training as classrooms become available.

Physical Qualifications

• Willing and able to perform essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Meet equipment weight qualifications (e.g., aerial bucket weight restrictions).
• Ability to climb up and down trucks, ladders, and equipment.
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs.

Automotive Technician (Mid-Level) Additional Requirements

• Expert ability in using diagnostic tools for vehicle and equipment systems.
• High-level automotive electrical knowledge and expert use of DVOM for diagnostics.
• Complete understanding of automotive electrical systems, schematics, and circuit components (e.g., sensors, switches).
• Advanced understanding of internal combustion engines, emission control systems, and hydraulics.
• Capable of assuming supervisory responsibilities and maintaining courteous service.

Automotive Technician Sr. Additional Requirements

• Expertly navigate manufacturer websites for diagnostic and repair information.
• Expertly diagnose and repair electrical systems, emission control systems, automotive HVAC, brake systems, suspension, and hydraulics on Entergy equipment.
• ASE certification in at least 3 of the following, or Master certification in A-Series or T-Series:
  • T1-Gasoline Engines
  • T2-Diesel Engines
  • T4-Brakes
  • T6-Electrical/Electronic Systems
  • T7-HVAC
  • A6-Electrical/Electronic Systems
  • A7-HVAC
  • A8-Engine Performance

  Company provides training materials and covers costs for up to 3 certification attempts per test.

• Advanced understanding of hydraulic operations and repair practices, with completed Altec bucket, digger, and PDM training.
• Certified in Arc, Mig, or Aluminum welding through an accredited institution (company covers costs for up to 3 attempts).
• Willing and able to take a lead role when working with peers or subordinate technicians.
• Excellent time management skills, including supervising groups to meet deadlines.
