About the role
Tipotex Chevrolet seeks an Automotive Sales Consultant to facilitate the transportation and ownership needs of retail customers. This role involves selling new and used automobiles, accessories, and tangible and intangible auto-related items. The successful candidate will also assist customers through the ownership cycle, focusing on pre-owned vehicle sales.
Responsibilities
- Utilizes professional selling skills to include in-person presentations, excellent telephone selling techniques, and text and written communications with customers.
- Records all prospects, leads, lost sales, and follow-up activity in the dealer management system (DMS).
- Pursues prospects until they “buy or die,” keeping management apprised of deal status and seeking assistance when needed to close the sale.
- Greets customers quickly and professionally, determining vehicle needs and desires, identifying decision makers, and assisting customers through the ownership cycle.
- Makes introductions of the sales supervisor to prospects to increase the chances of closing deals.
- Performs trade evaluations with customers present to establish realistic trade-in vehicle values based on condition, service records, and market conditions.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of various models, optional equipment, and accessories available, explaining features and benefits to customers.
- Demonstrates the operation of the vehicle on the road, recommending optional equipment and accessories based on customer needs and budget.
- With trucks and vans, must know trailering terms, payload capacity, and cargo dimensions.
- Explains vehicle warranties, service agreements, and the manufacturer’s recall process.
- Explains new owner benefits like the owner center, no-cost maintenance, loyalty rewards, and special services.
- Explain the manufacturer’s recall process, how to identify affected vehicles, and how dealers will work to repair them.
- Explains the certified pre-owned vehicle inspection process, warranty, and certification benefits.
- Explains general financing, residualized financing, and leasing terms and conditions.
- Follows the approved quotation process for purchases, trade-ins, and vehicle sales, explaining all terms on the Buyer’s Order or lease quotation.
- Submits down payments to the business office, obtaining customer signatures on credit applications, and advocating for maintenance and service agreements.
- Arranges for vehicle delivery, performing a pre-delivery inspection, recalling check, and road test, installing temporary tags, and assisting in vehicle personalization.
- Provides the owner’s manual and warranty booklet, familiarizing them with the vehicle and explaining maintenance schedules, recommended fuels, and lubricants.
- Completes the Dealership Orientation Tour, introducing customers to various departments and services.
- Sets and records the first service appointment in the DMS, explaining the dealership’s appointment process and benefits of GM and ACDelco Parts.
- Deals with customer complaints in a sensible manner, delivering on all promises to maintain excellent customer satisfaction.
- Maintains confidentiality, follows laws relevant to selling automobiles, and complies with cash reporting and OFAC guidelines.
- Secures vehicles on display, assists in arranging the display lot, and keeps all personal and common areas clean and presentable.
- Supports the organization through outside activities and respects diversity.
- Manages difficult or emotional customer situations, responds promptly to customer needs, solicits customer feedback, and measures self against standard of excellence.

- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- One to three months related experience and/or training
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
- Knowledge of Contact Management systems
- Ability to use a computer (PC workstations and hand-held electronic devices such as tablets)
