Automotive Program Supervisor I
Job Description and Duties
The Automotive Program Supervisor (AP Sup) I supervises staff and activities related to the Field Operations and Enforcement Unit under the general direction of the AP Sup II.
Working Conditions
- Candidates who reside outside the State of California may be admitted to the job interview but must reside in the State of California once hired.
- The Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented on July 1, 2025, reducing an employee's monthly salary in exchange for leave credits.
- The incumbent works in an office setting with artificial light and temperature control. Daily access to and use of a personal computer and telephone is essential.
- Sitting, standing, and occasional driving are functional requirements of the job.

Special Requirements
- A valid driver's license (DL) is required and must be provided in PDF format.
- A medical clearance is required before being hired.
- Applicants must have a work record clear of revocation or suspension of departmental-issued licenses for Vehicle Safety Systems Inspection, Smog Technician, and Smog Inspector.
Desirable Qualifications
- Knowledge of equipment and methods used in the maintenance and repair of automotive equipment.
- Ability to operate tools used in automotive repair, inspect automotive equipment, purchase parts and materials, keep accurate records of inventory, reconcile and make reports, follow oral and written directions.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others, work efficiently, report to work on time, maintain consistent, regular attendance, work under changing priorities or deadlines, look and act in a professional manner, and exhibit courteous behavior towards coworkers.
- Ability to analyze information and make decisions in a competent and timely manner.
- Ability to ask effective questions, evaluate information, apply guidelines and procedures, and make accurate and timely decisions.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
- Ability to maximize utilization of computers to accomplish daily tasks.

Statement of Qualifications
A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) must be submitted for the hiring manager’s review. The SOQ is considered the first interview for this position and must be typed, at least one (1) full page, but no more than two (2) pages in length, and formatted using 12-point Arial font, single spacing, and one-inch margins. It must contain your name and the position’s Job Control (JC) Number in the header and indicate your total years of experience and list the official title or civil service classification performing each of the essential duties listed in the Duty Statement.
