About the Role
The Automation Technician at the Consumer Health Logistics Center (CHLC) will install, maintain, and replace automation systems throughout the production process, ensuring seamless operations, minimal downtime, and optimal equipment performance. This role involves troubleshooting component parts, including motion sensors, control components, photosensors, and other vital automation and conveyance technology. The Automation Technician will serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for leadership and key decision-makers, delivering reports on current automation capabilities and future opportunities. This role is part of the site Asset Management team with a strong focus on Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and will participate in various Preventive and Predictive maintenance programs.
About The Consumer Health Logistics Center
The Consumer Health Logistics Center (CHLC) is Cardinal Health’s newest Pharmaceutical Supply Chain operation in Groveport, Ohio. This 350,000-square-foot facility features the latest innovations in automation technology and handles the picking, packing, and shipping of consumer products.
Schedule
Second Shift: Monday - Friday, 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM (or until task is complete). This is an on-site position requiring 5 days per week.
Responsibilities
- Primary point of contact for Facilities Technician and Honeywell technician for day-to-day work activities.
- Primary point of contact for Operations for automated conveyance system on assigned shift.
- Supports and coaches junior mechanics; escalates issues to Maintenance and Engineering Manager as needed.
- Performs preventative and corrective maintenance on Honeywell automation systems, including conveyors, sorters, depalletizing robots, and material handling equipment.
- Diagnoses and troubleshoots mechanical, electrical, and software issues on Honeywell and other automated systems using diagnostic tools and technical schematics.
- Monitors system performance and addresses inefficiencies, bottlenecks, or recurring issues to improve reliability and uptime.
- Collaborates with the operations team to understand and respond to maintenance priorities and system performance concerns.
- Inspects and maintains motors, sensors, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), drives, belts, pulleys, and other automation components.
- Utilizes Honeywell-specific software and tools to manage and analyze equipment performance data.
- Follows safety protocols and procedures, ensuring safe operation of automated systems and compliance with company and regulatory standards.
- Maintains accurate maintenance logs, documentation, and reports, including parts inventory usage and service records.
- Assists Facilities Technician with troubleshooting building systems, as needed.
- Assists with the installation, commissioning, and configuration of new Honeywell automation systems, as needed.
- Participates in and coordinates ongoing training and development programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Champions innovation, simplification, and standardization of current solution offerings, operating procedures, methodologies, and processes.
- Applies extensive knowledge of company policies to complete a wide range of assignments.
- Provides technical guidance and training to others.
- Works on complex problems requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative.
- Makes recommendations for new or revised processes and plays a role in their implementation.
- Adheres to all quality guidelines with minimal supervision and latitude to make decisions in exceptional circumstances.
- Provides guidance to less experienced team members; may have team leader responsibilities without formal supervision.
Qualifications
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience (preferred).
- 4+ years of relevant experience (preferred).
- Associate degree or certification in Industrial Maintenance, Automation, or electrical-related field (preferred).
- Safety-first approach to operation and maintenance of equipment.
- Basic understanding of programmable logic controller (PLC) programming and troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
- Strong understanding of conveyor systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.
- Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software or managing maintenance schedules and records (preferred).
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools.
- Ability to operate a forklift, scissor lift, and other heavy machinery (preferred).
- Familiarity with industrial maintenance safety standards such as Lock Out/Tag Out.
- Basic knowledge of network and communication protocols used in automation systems.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work in tight spaces, work at heights, and stand/walk for extended periods (preferred).
- Strong communication, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
- Availability for on-call rotation, overtime, and occasional weekend shifts.
- Understanding of Lean Six Sigma principles and their connection to product flow.
