Automation Technical Specialist

About the role

The Automation Technical Specialist will penetrate the market within the Industrial Business Unit and achieve established goals in sales, gross‑margin generation, and specific company initiatives within the Automation product lines. The role also provides technical assistance to field Account Managers.

Responsibilities

• Strong understanding of automation controls & software
• Assess customer needs
• Specify products
• Prepare customer proposals, deliver presentations, and generate quotations
• Determine costs
• Service customers via telephone
• Service customers on site
• Develop technical drawings
• PLC/Software development
• Codesys experience (required)
• I/O Link experience (required)
• Manage products and supplier relationships
• Evaluate industry trends and new technology

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering or equivalent (preferred)
• 2+ years experience as a Field Sales Engineer for automation systems
• Previous experience working for a distributor (preferred)
• Specific knowledge and experience with design, manufacture, and integration of automated manufacturing, material handling, assembly, and test equipment
• Understanding of mechanical and electrical design concepts and motion control
• Ability to develop creative, cost‑effective solutions to meet customer needs
• Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, AutoCAD, PLC programming, and troubleshooting
