Automation Engineer V
What You'll Do
As an AI Automation Engineer, you will help shape how work is automated, orchestrated, and continuously improved across Avalara. You will lead the design and engineering of scalable AI powered automation solutions, using n8n as a core orchestration platform to improve productivity, quality, and operational scale.
What Your Responsibilities Will Be
Own and help execute Avalara's enterprise AI automation and transformation strategy, with n8n serving as a core workflow orchestration platform
Design and build scalable, secure, and resilient automation solutions that reduce manual work and improve business process efficiency
Develop AI-enabled workflows, intelligent agents, and decisioning frameworks that support business transformation across multiple functions
Architect API-first and event-driven integrations that connect enterprise systems, automation platforms, and AI services
Establish platform standards for development, deployment, monitoring, reliability, and governance across automation initiatives
Define and maintain CI/CD processes, environment strategies, and release practices that improve automation quality and delivery speed
Create reusable automation frameworks, workflow templates, prompt patterns, and AI agent accelerators that increase consistency and reuse
Implement observability, monitoring, alerting, and performance measurement practices for both traditional and AI-driven workflows
Lead technical design reviews, workflow assessments, and post-incident reviews to improve platform reliability and operational excellence
Mentor engineers and implementation partners while promoting best practices for AI automation, agent orchestration, responsible AI, and workflow engineering
What You’ll Need To Be Successful
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field and 10+ years of experience in enterprise automation, workflow engineering, integration engineering, or platform architecture
Deep hands-on experience with n8n or Boomi, including designing and operating enterprise automation solutions and AI-enabled workflows
Strong expertise in API-first and event-driven architectures, REST APIs, webhooks, OAuth, JWT, and secure integration practices
Experience implementing CI/CD, automation governance, observability, and reliability practices across enterprise-scale platforms
Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, including AI and machine learning services and large language model integrations
Demonstrated ability to identify high-value AI automation opportunities, build AI-enabled solutions responsibly, measure business impact, influence technical direction, and raise engineering standards through mentorship and leadership
Pay Range Details
Colorado: $126,000-$201,600 (annually)
Washington: $126,000-$222,800 (annually)
California: $126,000-$244,000 (annually)
NYC: $139,200-$244,000 (annually)
