About the role

The Data Automation Engineer will support Coast Guard data modernization and automation initiatives. Key responsibilities include designing, developing, and maintaining automated data pipelines, workflows, and integration solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain automated data pipelines, workflows, and integration solutions.
  • Build and optimize ETL/ELT processes for ingesting, transforming, and loading data from multiple source systems.
  • Develop data integration solutions using APIs, databases, cloud services, and enterprise applications.
  • Automate manual data collection, validation, reconciliation, and reporting processes.
  • Maintain and monitor data pipelines to ensure reliability, performance, and data integrity.
  • Implement data quality checks, exception handling, and monitoring frameworks.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, analysts, developers, and data engineers to gather requirements and deliver automated solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational security, governance, and data management standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in data engineering, automation, or data integration roles.
  • Strong experience with Python, SQL, and automation scripting.
  • Experience developing ETL/ELT pipelines and workflow orchestration.
  • Experience with relational and non-relational databases.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, data transformation, and data quality practices.
  • Experience working with APIs, file-based integrations, and enterprise data systems.
  • Preferred qualifications include experience supporting Coast Guard or other government-related programs, experience with cloud platforms like Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud, and knowledge of DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).

Qualifications

  • Experience with Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, Apache Airflow, Git/GitHub, and other relevant tools.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.

  • Technical Skills: Python, SQL, ETL/ELT Development, Data Pipeline Automation, API Integration, Azure Data Factory / Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Snowflake, Apache Airflow, Git/GitHub, Cloud Data Platforms, Data Warehousing, Process Automation.
  • Key Competencies: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and collaboration abilities, strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy, self-motivated with the ability to work independently and in team environments.
