Automation Engineer
Location: Lenexa, KS (100% On-site) | 12-Month Contract
About the Role
Randstad, in partnership with MilliporeSigma, is seeking a skilled Controls Automation Engineer with 3 to 5 years of experience to support, optimize, and troubleshoot manufacturing control systems. Responsibilities
- PLC & HMI Maintenance: Maintain and program Rockwell Automation platforms (ControlLogix, CompactLogix, MicroLogix) and troubleshoot HMI/SCADA systems (FactoryTalk View, Ignition).
- System Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve control system faults, instrumentation issues, and electrical failures to keep production running smoothly.
- Project Lifecycle Support: Lead automation projects from concept, design, and programming to installation, startup, and handover.
- Documentation & Compliance: Create and update electrical schematics, P&IDs, and control narratives. Ensure all systems align with safety codes (NFPA 70, OSHA, ISA/IEC).
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with process engineers to optimize throughput/safety, and train maintenance techs on basic system troubleshooting.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Controls, or Automation Engineering (or a closely related field).
- 3–5 years of hands-on industrial controls and automation experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Proven expertise with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley PLCs (Studio 5000/RSLogix 5000) and HMI/SCADA configurations.
- Solid understanding of industrial networking (EtherNet/IP) and hands-on experience with VFDs, sensors, and motor controls.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Rockwell Automation Certified Logix Designer (CLD) certification.
- Experience in life sciences, food & beverage, chemical, or packaging industries.
- Familiarity with ISA-88 batch standards, robot programming (FANUC, ABB, KUKA), or MES/SAP integration.
Working Conditions
- Fully on-site at our state-of-the-art Lenexa, KS manufacturing plant.
- Standard manufacturing floor environment (requires occasional standing, walking, and working around machinery).
- Flexibility to provide occasional on-call support or off-shift work during critical project phases.
- Up to 10% travel for vendor training or cross-site project support.
Pay
$40.00 – $42.00 / hour (Based on experience)

Monday – Friday, First Shift (Flexible Schedule)
