Automation Engineer

About the role

Technical Source is hiring an Automation Support Engineer for a long-term, onsite opportunity in Concord, NC. This role focuses on supporting pharmaceutical manufacturing operations by troubleshooting and maintaining Rockwell/Allen-Bradley PLCs and FactoryTalk HMI/SCADA systems on live production lines. The engagement is long‑term, expected to run through at least 2027, with a minimum requested commitment of 12 months from each contractor.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a key resource for resolving automation issues and supporting production uptime.
• Work within GMP and SOP requirements.
• Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams.
• Support formulation, filling, packaging, or other sterile/regulated production lines.
• Maintain and troubleshoot Rockwell/Allen-Bradley PLCs (Studio 5000) and FactoryTalk-based HMI/SCADA (FactoryTalk View SE/ME) systems.
• Follow change control, deviation, and validation frameworks.
• Provide off‑shift support as needed.
• Document issues and perform shift handoffs.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands‑on automation experience in pharma or closely related life sciences manufacturing (GMP required).
• Demonstrated experience supporting formulation, filling, packaging, or other sterile/regulated production lines (not just lab or utilities, if possible).
• Strong background with Rockwell / Allen‑Bradley PLCs (Studio 5000) in live production support environments.
• Proven troubleshooting skills with FactoryTalk‑based HMI/SCADA (e.g., FactoryTalk View SE/ME) and related automation components.
• Clear history of working under SOPs and within change control, deviation, and validation frameworks.
• Ability to support off‑shift as needed.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with operators, maintenance, and site leadership, as well as for documentation and shift handoffs.
• Ability to work methodically and conservatively in a regulated environment.
• Self‑starting personality with a track record of taking ownership of issues, following through, and knowing when to escalate.

Schedule

• Weekend Shift: Thursday‑Sunday, 10:00 AM‑9:00 PM
• Night Shift: Thursday‑Sunday, 6:00 PM‑8:00 AM
