Automation Engineer
What You'll Do
- Become the subject matter expert for equipment and manufacturing processes within assigned departments.
- Support maintenance technicians, electricians, and process engineers in advanced troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
- Lead efforts to improve equipment reliability, uptime, and process performance.
- Partner with production teams to identify and implement safety, quality, and productivity improvements.
- Drive plant and departmental objectives through automation technologies and process optimization.
- Utilize data and analytics to improve manufacturing performance.
- Design, manage, and execute capital improvement projects.
- Support electrical power distribution, controls systems, and mechanical project components.
- Maintain and enforce Shaw's electrical standards and code requirements.
- Ensure all automation systems remain supported through proper documentation, drawings, source code management, spare parts, and vendor support.
- Collaborate with Corporate Information Manufacturing (CIM) and other Shaw Automation Engineers to leverage best practices and share knowledge across the organization.
- Mentor and develop technical resources within the plant.
- Support skill development and knowledge transfer among maintenance and engineering teams.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (any discipline)
- Minimum 1 year of automation engineering experience
- Experience with: PLC programming and troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens), HMI systems, industrial controls and automation platforms, PC hardware and software systems
- Knowledge of: AC, DC, and Servo motors, single-phase and three-phase electrical systems, industrial power distribution, machine safety systems and guarding standards, industrial networking protocols
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting manufacturing operations
- Project management or capital project experience
- Experience writing software applications used for process data collection and analysis
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
- Continuous improvement mindset
