Responsibilities
- Translate approved quotes from the estimating department into detailed 2D door drawings using AutoCAD LT.
- Draft accurate and complete door designs, including dimensions, configurations, and hardware details, in alignment with project specifications.
- Select appropriate materials for each door design based on project requirements and company standards.
- Prepare and maintain clear, organized drawing files and documentation to support production and project tracking.
- Learn and support bill of materials (BOM) processes for the department, including creating and updating BOMs for drafted projects.
- Verify drawings and BOMs for accuracy and completeness, ensuring they align with quotes and customer requirements.
- Collaborate closely with the engineering manager to review designs, resolve technical questions, and implement feedback.
- Communicate regularly with the estimating department to clarify design details, confirm scope, and address discrepancies between quotes and drawings.
- Cook up with the production floor as needed to answer questions about drawings and materials and to support smooth manufacturing.
- Maintain high standards of quality and attention to detail in all drafting work, minimizing errors and rework.
- Follow established drafting, documentation, and file management procedures within the engineering department.
- Participate in training on BOM processes and other internal systems, and apply new knowledge to improve accuracy and efficiency.
Requirements
- Associate of Science (AS) degree in design, mechanical design, or architectural design.
- At least 1 year of experience using AutoCAD, preferably including AutoCAD LT.
- Proven attention to detail demonstrated through previous work experience or school projects.
- Mechanical drafting skills with the ability to produce clear and accurate 2D drawings.
- Working knowledge of mechanical design principles relevant to door and component layouts.
- Ability to learn and apply bill of materials (BOM) processes.
- Strong communication skills to work effectively with engineering, estimating, and production teams.
- Ability to follow established procedures and maintain organized documentation.
