About the role
Responsible for the maintenance and repair of all MSD Fleet vehicles and equipment, including cars, medium and heavy-trucks, construction and vocational fleet equipment.
Responsibilities
- Diagnoses and repairs engines, drivetrains and related power-transfer components of various sizes and types.
- Diagnoses and repairs steering and suspension systems.
- Diagnoses and repairs brake systems.
- Diagnoses and repairs fuel injection and emission control systems.
- Diagnoses and repairs electrical, accessory, HVAC and safety systems.
- Diagnoses and repairs integrated mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and water pumping systems.
- Conducts road tests/operational checks for diagnostic purposes to determine equipment deficiencies, and for repair verification.
- Performs preventive maintenance inspections, services and repairs.
- Performs cutting, welding and fabrication operations.
- Maintains work areas.
- Maintains daily records of work performed, materials used and time spent.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or as judgment/necessity dictates.
- Serves as a member of the Emergency Response Team.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Three or more years of experience as a mechanic in automotive or truck maintenance or a related field.
- A valid driver’s license.
- CDL-Class A with N endorsement within 6 months.
- ASE Certification in A5, T4 and T8 within 6 months plus either A4 or T5 and either A1, T1 or A9 within 12 months and keep them current.
- Safe work and driving habits.
Qualifications
- Necessary to the work: Knowledge of the operating principles, maintenance, diagnosis and repair of the components and systems encountered in the automotive, heavy-truck, construction and vocational equipment repair trades; knowledge of standard and metric measuring systems; knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, equipment and materials of the trade, including occupational hazards and safety precautions; skill in basic mathematical computation; skill in the use of tools, shop equipment and diagnostic software; ability to remove, disassemble, clean, inspect, measure, evaluate, adjust, repair, reassemble and replace components; ability to read and comprehend technical and service publications; ability to perform diagnostic tests, evaluate results and repair malfunctions; ability to read wiring diagrams and schematics; ability to diagnose and repair electrical system malfunctions; ability to evacuate, recover and recharge vehicle refrigerant systems; ability to diagnose and repair integrated mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, air-conveyance and water pumping systems; ability to diagnose and repair hybrid vehicle systems and alternative fuel systems; ability to implement safe work practices; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to use personal computers and job related software; ability to perform physically demanding tasks as outlined above; ability to work under adverse working conditions such as inclement weather; ability to work effectively under heavy, unpredictable surges in workload; ability to work various shifts and overtime.
