The Western District of Missouri is currently accepting applications for an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) to be assigned to the Criminal Division in the Springfield Office. Springfield is a welcoming Ozarks community with an affordable cost of living, high quality of life, and easy access to outdoor destinations like the Ozark Mountains and Table Rock Lake. Criminal AUSAs in the Western District of Missouri prosecute federal crimes, including terrorism, public corruption, child exploitation, firearms, violent crime, drug trafficking, and immigration offenses. As an AUSA, you will exercise discretion and responsibility unparalleled in any other litigator role, working with law enforcement agencies to investigate federal crimes, research and brief legal issues, and represent the United States in hearings, trials, and appeals.

Responsibilities

• Prosecute federal criminal cases, including terrorism, public corruption, child exploitation, firearms, violent crime, drug trafficking, and immigration offenses.
• Work with law enforcement agencies to investigate federal crimes.
• Research and brief legal issues.
• Represent the United States in hearings, trials, and appeals.
• Handle high-profile cases and take on increasing responsibilities as skills and experience progress.

Requirements

• Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree and be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction).
• At least 1 year of post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.
• Must be a United States Citizen or National.
• Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
• Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which they are appointed or within 25 miles thereof.
• Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must certify registration with the Selective Service System or be exempt under Selective Service Law.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• J.D. Degree.
• Active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction).
• At least 1 year of post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong academic credentials.
• Significant litigation experience.
• Strong oral advocacy and legal writing skills.
• Sound judgment, work ethic, interpersonal skills, grit, and a sincere commitment to the mission of doing justice.

Pay

Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $78,000 to $183,016, which includes locality pay.
