About the Role

This unit oversees the enforcement and compliance efforts of the FAMLI Division. The team consists of auditors and investigators ensuring employers comply with program requirements, including preventing prohibited activities such as retaliation or interference, investigating fraudulent claims for benefits, and reviewing employer records to ensure proper premium calculations. Auditors verify compliance with FAMLI statutes by systematically examining business books and records to confirm accurate premium assessments, collect missing premium reports, and determine legal liability for payments not properly classified as covered employment.

This position performs external fact-finding audit examinations on Colorado business books and records, operating independently based on accepted auditing standards. The role ensures uniform application, interpretation, administration, and compliance with FAMLI statutes.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct external fact-finding audit examinations of Colorado business books and records.
  • Ensure compliance with FAMLI statutes through systematic review of employer records.
  • Verify correct premium assessments and collect missing premium reports.
  • Determine legal liability for payments not properly classified as covered employment.
  • Apply auditing standards to ensure uniform interpretation and administration of FAMLI statutes.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Six (6) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned, such as:
    • Tax preparation, payroll reporting and preparation, payroll reconciliation.
    • Preparing general ledger and financial statements, bank and check reconciliation.
    • General auditing experience, including preparing audit documentation, reports, and/or findings.
    • Finance or Business Administration.
  • A combination of related education and/or relevant experience equal to six (6) years.
  • Current, valid licensure as a CPA from the Colorado Board of Accountancy or a current, valid CIA certificate may substitute for five (5) years of the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional auditing and/or accounting experience.
  • Previous experience in Unemployment Insurance, Workers’ Compensation, or Compliance Investigations.
  • Experience performing similar duties as a State of Colorado classified employee.

Pay

  • $31.52 - $43.02 hourly
  • $2,521.38 - $3,441.58 biweekly
  • $5,463.00 - $7,456.76 monthly

Schedule

This position offers hybrid workplace options but requires reporting to the listed address at the supervisor’s discretion based on business needs.
