Duties Description

Assist in the audit and investigation of banks, insurance companies, utilities, stockbrokers, collateral loan makers, or any other organization that may hold unclaimed property to ensure accurate and complete reporting and remittance of unclaimed property to the State Comptroller.

Minimum Qualifications

• For appointment under the NYHELPS Program: No exam required.
  • Abandoned Property: Bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 24 undergraduate or graduate semester credit hours in accounting and/or auditing.
  • Trainee 2 Abandoned Property: Bachelor’s degree including or supplemented by 24 undergraduate or graduate semester credit hours in accounting and/or auditing AND one year of professional accounting and/or auditing experience.
  • Auditor Trainee 1 Abandoned Property: Bachelor’s degree including or supplemented by 24 undergraduate or graduate semester credit hours in accounting and/or auditing AND one year of professional accounting and/or auditing experience.
  • Auditor 1 Abandoned Property (SG-18): Bachelor’s degree including or supplemented by 24 undergraduate or graduate semester credit hours in accounting and/or auditing AND two years of professional accounting and/or auditing experience.
  • Auditor 1 Abandoned Property (SG-18): Master's or doctoral degree in accounting, business administration, business management, criminal justice, economics, engineering, finance, mathematics, public administration, public or community health, public policy, political science, or statistics including or supplemented by 24 undergraduate or graduate credit hours in accounting and/or auditing AND one year of professional accounting and/or auditing experience.

Non-Competitive Qualifications for Appointment under the NYHELPS Program

• Abandoned Property: Bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 24 undergraduate or graduate semester credit hours in accounting and/or auditing.
• Trainee 2 Abandoned Property: Bachelor’s degree including or supplemented by 24 undergraduate or graduate semester credit hours in accounting and/or auditing AND one year of professional accounting and/or auditing experience.
• Auditor Trainee 1 Abandoned Property: Bachelor’s degree including or supplemented by 24 undergraduate or graduate semester credit hours in accounting and/or auditing AND one year of professional accounting and/or auditing experience.
• Auditor 1 Abandoned Property (SG-18): Bachelor’s degree including or supplemented by 24 undergraduate or graduate semester credit hours in accounting and/or auditing AND two years of professional accounting and/or auditing experience.
• Auditor 1 Abandoned Property (SG-18): Master's or doctoral degree in accounting, business administration, business management, criminal justice, economics, engineering, finance, mathematics, public administration, public or community health, public policy, political science, or statistics including or supplemented by 24 undergraduate or graduate credit hours in accounting and/or auditing AND one year of professional accounting and/or auditing experience.

Competitive Minimum Qualifications

• You must be currently reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title, eligible under the 55 b/c program, or eligible to transfer to this title under Section 70.1 or 70.4 of the Civil Service Law.
