Location: Nashville, TN – Department of Labor & Workforce Development, Davidson County

Salary: $3,631.00 monthly ($43,572.00 annually)

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a Public Accountant in good standing, plus one year of full-time professional auditing experience.
• OR graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree including thirty-six quarter hours in accounting, plus one year of full-time professional auditing experience.

Substitution of Education for Experience: Additional graduate coursework in business administration with a major in accounting may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Necessary Special Qualifications:

• Complete a criminal history disclosure form as required by the appointing authority.
• Agree to release all criminal history records to the appointing authority.
• Supply a fingerprint sample prescribed by the TBI.

Responsibilities

• Conducts financial audits of State departments, agencies, institutions, schools, or private agencies receiving state or federal funds to verify the completeness and accuracy of financial documentation and ensure conformance with accepted accounting principles, practices, and compliance.
• Examines financial statements, bank statements, balance sheets, purchase invoices, and payroll records.
• Conducts operational audits of state or private agencies to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of programs by reviewing organizational structure, managerial practices, policies, procedures, and record-keeping.
• Prepares audit narrative reports, work papers, and supporting financial documentation to identify legal, financial, or administrative problems or discrepancies and recommend improvements.
• Establishes and maintains contacts with departmental officials, agency representatives, attorneys, associates, and supervisory staff to suggest solutions, resolve audit findings, and explain pertinent laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• May conduct special studies and investigations at the request of a department head.
• May train less experienced professional auditors.
