About the role

This position is for the San Joaquin General Hospital. The examination is being given to fill 1 vacancy and to establish an eligible list for future vacancies.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, assess, diagnose, manage, and interpret test results related to disorders of human hearing, balance, and other neural systems.
  • Formulate and implement goal-directed treatment plans in accordance with audiology standards of care and practice.
  • Develop and evaluate patient teaching plans based on identified learning needs; counsel patients and families regarding hearing loss and treatment options.
  • Document all audiology treatments, assessments, and evaluations for inpatient and outpatient populations.
  • Ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures, including hospital fire, safety, and infection control protocols.
  • Demonstrate applied knowledge for age-specific patient care.
  • Prepare reports related to audiology activities, including performance improvement initiatives.
  • Provide performance information regarding personnel assigned to the Audiology Clinic.
  • Coordinate treatment programs with physicians, nurses, and professional/para-professional staff; may develop new audiological programs or coordinate research programs.
  • Conduct and/or attend in-service training programs for staff.
  • May dispense hearing aids.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university program with a master’s degree in audiology.
  • Valid license as an Audiologist issued by the California Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensers’ Board.
  • Possession of a current and valid California hearing aid dispensing license, if required by the nature of the assignment.

Knowledge

  • Current principles, methods, techniques, equipment, and materials used in audiology.
  • Possible reactions of and hazards to patients during treatment, including precautionary and remedial measures.
  • Anatomy and physiology related to treatment, as well as psychological and physiological problems of persons with disabling conditions.

Abilities

  • Prioritize, organize, and coordinate care.
  • Interpret and adapt physicians' orders and/or written reports.
  • Communicate effectively and work independently.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with patients, families, staff, and others.
  • Maintain excellent customer relations.
  • Teach therapeutic techniques and modalities; may supervise less experienced audiologists.

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Mobility: Constant keyboard operation; frequent sitting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, and squatting; occasional running and climbing stairs; occasional lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring supplies and equipment.
  • Lifting: Lifts up to 30 pounds occasionally; occasional restraint, lifting, or turning of heavy objects or people.
  • Visual: Constant use of overall vision, color perception, depth perception, hand/eye coordination, reading, close-up work, and peripheral vision.
  • Dexterity: Constant holding, reaching, grasping, and writing; occasional repetitive motion.
  • Hearing/Talking: Constant hearing and talking in person; occasional hearing on telephone/radio and talking on the telephone.
  • Emotional/Psychological: Occasional exposure to emergency situations, trauma, grief, death, and hazardous materials; occasional travel; constant public contact, decision-making, and concentration.
  • Environmental: Occasional exposure to noise, dirt, dust, smoke, fumes, poor ventilation, cold, and heat; occasional exposure to conflict.
  • Other: Must be capable of working with physically challenged children and adults.

  • Retirement Plan: Covered by the County Retirement Law of 1937; visit SJCERA for details.
  • Deferred Compensation: Annual contribution limit of $22,500 (or 100% of includible compensation, whichever is less); $30,000 for individuals age 50 or older. Roth IRA (after-tax) also available.
  • Vacation: 10 days per year up to 3 years; 15 days after 3 years; 20 days after 10 years; 23 days after 20 years.
  • Holidays: 14 paid holidays per year (effective July 1, 2017).
  • Sick Leave: 12 working days annually with unlimited accumulation; eligible for 8 hours of administrative leave if leave balance is at least half of cumulative accrual and employee is on payroll for the entire calendar year.
  • Bereavement Leave: 3 days of paid leave for the death of a qualifying family member; 2 additional days for the death of a spouse, domestic partner, parent, or child.
  • Merit Salary Increase: Eligible for a step increase after 52 weeks (2,080 hours) at each step of the salary range.
  • Educational Reimbursement Program: Up to $850 per fiscal year for career-related coursework; up to $1,600 per fiscal year for approved four-year college/university academic programs.
  • Parking Supplemental: County contributes up to $20 per pay period for employees who pay for parking in the Downtown Core Area.
  • School Activities: Up to 40 hours per year (maximum 8 hours per month) to participate in children’s school activities.
