Audiologist

About the role

This position provides audiological rehabilitation, selects, fits and dispenses amplification systems such as hearing aids and related devices. The Audiologist evaluates and manages children and adults with central auditory processing disorders and supervises and completes tracking of newborn hearing screening programs. The Altru Audiology team provides a wide variety of hearing and balance services to a rural community.

• Threshold ABR (natural sleep and sedated)
• CAPD evaluations
• Vestibular testing (VNG, ECochG, and VEMP)

All services (except vestibular testing) are available for both adult and pediatric patients. The team works closely with Altru's ENT department, including two cochlear implant surgeons. Services are based in Grand Forks, ND with limited outreach to Devils Lake and Park River, ND as well as Crookston, MN.

Responsibilities

• Obtain accurate and concise patient history and pertinent information
• Perform accurate hearing evaluations using appropriate diagnostic testing procedures
• Provide rehabilitative services including counseling and teaching effective communication techniques
• Recognize normal and abnormal results, interpret and explain findings
• Differentiate between organic and inorganic disabilities
• Perform follow-up and reassess auditory acuity and hearing aid performance on a schedule aligned with the patient’s hearing loss, needs, and habilitation guidelines
• Document audiological testing results and clinical observations to assist physicians with interpretation and management
• Recommend hearing aids, ENT management, speech therapy, and other assistive devices
• Educate patients, family, and appropriate parties on audiological testing and rehabilitation
• Counsel patients on amplification options and products

Certifications and requirements

• Audiologist license in North Dakota (required prior to start)
• Minnesota Audiology license (required within 24 months of start)
• Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) from ASHA or American Board of Audiology Certified (ABAC) (required prior to start)
• Driver’s license with acceptable driving record (required prior to start)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA (required within 90 days of start)
• North Dakota Hearing Instrument Dispensers license (required within 6 months of start)
• Completion of a 1-year audiology externship

Language requirements

Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English to ensure effective communication in the workplace and with patients, families, and team members.
