About the role

The incumbent of this position serves as an Audiologist and is responsible for provision of audiological services for the students in the assigned department(s) and Admissions students referred for audiological evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive audiometric evaluations as a member of interdisciplinary teams to determine if student meets or continues to meet eligibility requirements for FSDB. Make recommendations for student’s audiological service needs and appropriate follow-up services.
  • Provide re-evaluations, hearing aid evaluations, impedance screenings, and other appropriate evaluations in accordance with school policy and delivery of appropriate services.
  • Evaluate personal and school provided amplification equipment to ensure adequate performance and maximize students’ residual hearing.
  • Coordinate repair of personal and school provided amplification systems for assigned department(s) and communicate with parents when necessary.
  • Develop, implement and monitor accountability system for all equipment in Audiology department.
  • Provide personal amplification orientation to new and problem users to assist in acceptance and benefit of amplification.
  • Develop audiology files with evaluations, audiograms, teacher/parent communications, repairs of personal amplification or other reports as needed.
  • Provide support to the Department Speech Language Pathologist/Speech Teacher in the care, maintenance and use of amplification with students in the assigned department.
  • Attend training and implement skills acquired during professional development activities as required by Federal, State and FSDB mandates.
  • Perform other additional duties as requested.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or higher in related field;
  • Current licensure by the State of Florida & American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
  • 12-credit hours of college coursework in Deaf/Hard of Hearing

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of standard audiological principles and procedures;
  • Ability to evaluate residual hearing of deaf or hard of hearing and blind students;
  • Knowledge of function/use of hearing aids and auditory assistance technology;
  • Knowledge of hearing impairment and its effect on speech/language/academic learning;
  • Knowledge of aural habilitation methods and the ability to relate aural habilitation to the education of the deaf/hard of hearing;
  • Ability to apply audiological knowledge to effective delivery of audiological services to students and staff;
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time;
  • Ability to attain sign language proficiency level in accordance with FSDB O.P.P.1.24;
