Summary
Audiologists are responsible for performing clinical audiology testing of claimants in-office using advanced technology and procedures. The Office of Disability and Medical Assessment (DMA), the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and the Veterans Benefit Administration (VBA) have developed specific guides for conducting disability examinations.
Essential Job Functions
- Administer and interpret a variety of tests to determine the type and degree of hearing impairment, such as air and bone conduction, and speech reception and discrimination tests, the site of damage, and effects on comprehension and speech.
- Evaluate test results in relation to behavioral, social, educational and conduct medical record reviews of past audiograms and documents to determine the likely cause of the hearing loss, and to state the prognosis and address the issues of hearing loss and tinnitus.
- Operate computerized programs and utilize application software and databases in order to enter, modify, and access information into/from electronic medical records, and utilizing report writing formats.
- Maintain patient confidentiality with written and verbal information per HIPAA.
- Conduct otoscopic examinations, cerumen management, and calibration checks of audiometric equipment.
- Conduct review of claimants’ records as needed.
- Participate in continuing education to continually improve skills and abilities and stay abreast of current practices and technologies.
- Participate in quality improvement and utilization review activities.
- Meet clients’ quality and submission time requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education And/or Experience:
- Master’s or Doctorate in Audiology.
- State licensure as an Audiologist.
- Experience in computerized charting at the time of visit.
- Typing at least 35 words per minute.
- Strong written and communication skills.
- Preferred Experience: One year experience performing clinical audiology testing preferred.
Qualifications - ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES
- Must be proficient in multiple software programs, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, and the Internet.
- Must be a qualified typist with a minimum of 35 W.P.M.
- Must demonstrate exceptional communication skills.
- Must be able to work independently, prioritize work activities and use time efficiently.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
- Must be able to stay focused and concentrate under normal or heavy distractions.
Physical Demands

- This Position Generally Consists Of Ability to work at a desk or similar office-type furnishings up to 8 hours a day or longer as required by business needs.
- Ability to operate a computer up to 4 hours at a time.
- Ability to travel to different floors of the office or other locations.
- Occasionally lifting and/or carrying up to 20 lbs.
- Occasionally pushing/pulling up to 20 lbs.
Work Environment
