Remote — United States · Project-based contract$80–$120 per finished hour of audio About us The Papaya Club is a full-service audiobook production studio based in Los Angeles and working worldwide. We partner with authors, publishers, and production teams to create audiobooks for stories meant to be heard. Our work brings together creative judgment, technical precision, and close attention to the written word. From direction and recording through editing, mastering, and sound design, we shape each production around the story—preserving the cadence, emotion, and humanity of the performance. The role We’re looking for an experienced Audio Editor who can carry an audiobook through the full post-production process: preprocessing, editing, proofing, pickups, quality checks, and mastering. This is hands-on work for someone with a sharp ear, strong editorial judgment, and a reliable workflow. You’ll take ownership of your projects and deliver polished, carefully checked masters for final quality review. What you’ll do • Preprocess recordings and reduce noise while preserving the narrator’s voice.• Edit narration to remove unwanted noise, clicks, and pops while preserving natural pacing and the character of the narrator’s performance.• Proof against the manuscript as you edit, flag errors, and prepare clear pickup sheets.• Manage pickups from request through delivery, review returned recordings, and integrate replacement takes seamlessly.• Apply EQ, compression, de-essing, and other processing as the recording requires.• Master to project specifications, complete quality checks, and deliver organized files for final review. What you’ll bring • At least two years of hands-on audiobook editing experience. Audiobook experience is required.• A confident workflow using tools such as Pozotron, iZotope RX, Pro Tools or REAPER. (Pro Tools preferred.)• The ability to handle editing, proofing, pickup management, and mastering independently.• Careful judgment about pacing, performance, and processing.• Clear communication, attention to detail, and dependable follow-through.• Availability to take on audiobook projects, with scope and deadlines agreed for each assignment. Engagement and rate This is a project-by-project contract role. Weekly workload varies with production needs and the assignments you accept; some weeks may have no work, while busier weeks may involve around 40 hours. There is no fixed weekly commitment or guaranteed volume of work. We’ll agree on each project’s scope, timeline, and your availability before work begins. Compensation is $80–$120 per finished hour of audio, with the exact rate confirmed for each project. One finished hour means one hour of completed audio, not one hour of time worked. How to apply Apply through The Papaya Club application portal: https://apply.thepapayaclub.com. Tell us about your audiobook experience, production tools, and availability. Résumés, relevant audio samples, and portfolio links are welcome. Selected applicants will be invited to a Zoom conversation. Candidates who advance will complete a sample edit using approximately 15 minutes of source audio, designed to take 30–60 minutes. We’ll make our hiring decision after reviewing the test.
