ATTORNEY SUPERVISOR

About the Role

Under the general direction of the Assistant Chief Counsel, the Attorney Supervisor independently handles the most difficult and complex legal matters. This position is in the Tax and Fee Programs Bureau.

Responsibilities

• Reviewing and preparing complex legal documents
• Developing legal strategies
• Preparing for trials, appeals conferences, administrative hearings, or settlement negotiations
• Performing other complex professional legal work and job-related activities as assigned
• Conferring with the Assistant Chief Counsel and management on matters of tax policy and procedure
• Acting for the Assistant Chief Counsel when necessary
• Assisting the Assistant Chief Counsel in planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating the work of a legal staff
• Supervising a small group of attorneys and senior audit professionals, performing a wide variety of legal and audit work of varying levels of complexity and difficulty

Requirements

• Position requires employee to have and maintain active CA State Bar License
• Position requires employees to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a background investigation
• Travel up to twenty percent (20%) of the time is required for this position

Qualifications

• Individuals who are currently in the classification, eligible for lateral transfer, eligible for reinstatement, have list or LEAP eligibility, are in the process of obtaining list eligibility, or have SROA and/or Surplus eligibility
• Applicants must meet the Minimum Qualifications stated in the Classification Specification(s)

Pay

$11,867.00 - $15,244.00. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

Schedule

• Permanent, Full Time
• Hybrid telework schedule available for eligible candidates residing in California. All telework/hybrid schedules require staff to report to the office a minimum number of days per week. Schedules are subject to change.
