Attorney - Mental Hygiene Legal Service

About the role

The New York State Unified Court System, Appellate Division 3rd Department Mental Hygiene Legal Service is recruiting for one (1) position in the Attorney Series. The position will be filled as Associate Attorney, Senior Attorney, or Attorney, based on the applicant's qualifications and experience, and will be assigned to the Tupper Lake Satellite Office of the Third Department's Mental Hygiene Legal Service.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal services and assistance to people residing in mental hygiene facilities, including those operated or licensed by the Office of Mental Health and the Office of People with Developmental Disabilities.
• Appear in judicial and administrative proceedings concerning the admission, retention, care, and treatment of individuals in mental hygiene facilities under Articles 9, 10, and 15 of the Mental Hygiene Law.
• Handle related proceedings such as guardianship matters.

Qualifications

• Associate Attorney: Admission to the New York State Bar and two (2) years of service in the Senior Attorney title; or equivalent legal experience. Base Salary: $110,853.
• Senior Attorney: Admission to the New York State Bar and two (2) years of service in the Attorney title; or equivalent legal experience. Base Salary: $99,490.
• Attorney: Admission to the New York State Bar; or graduation from an accredited law school and admission to the New York State Bar within 18 months of appointment. Base Salary: $84,659.

Skills

• Trial experience is preferred.
• A valid driver's license and reliable vehicle are required.
