Responsibilities
- Lead the review, drafting, and negotiation of agreements with school districts, service providers, and strategic collaborators.
- Counsel business teams on student information privacy obligations under applicable federal and state education laws and regulations.
- Oversee legal and compliance considerations tied to education technology offerings, identifying risks and recommending workable solutions.
- Evaluate advertising, promotional materials, and product-related statements to help ensure legal accuracy and reduce exposure.
- Provide legal support on workforce matters, including employment practices and human resources issues as they arise.
- Advise on intellectual property matters involving software assets, instructional materials, branding, copyrights, and related protections.
- Cook up with external legal counsel on claims, disputes, or litigation and assist with strategy, documentation, and case management.
Requirements
- Active license to practice law in good standing.
- Demonstrated experience negotiating and interpreting commercial contracts.
- Strong knowledge of privacy requirements affecting student data and education-related operations.
- Background handling compliance issues in a regulated or technology-driven environment.
- Familiarity with employment law and HR-related legal matters.
- Experience addressing intellectual property questions involving software, content, trademarks, or copyrights.
- Working knowledge of litigation processes, including discovery, motion practice, and legal briefing.
- Ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice while managing multiple priorities effectively.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should have:
- A Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- At least 5 years of relevant legal experience, preferably in an educational setting.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
