Attorney IV

About the role

Performs advanced legal work in the area assigned, involving litigation and legal research; drafting legal documents; and interpreting laws, rules, and regulations. Works under general direction with authority to make tactical and legal decisions in connection with assigned cases.

Responsibilities

• Represents the state in pre-trial and evidentiary hearings and jury/court trials
• Ensures effective communications with defense attorneys, court personnel, victims and family members, witnesses, and other interested parties
• Handles Public Information Act (PIA) requests for Dallas County, including PIA requests to the County Clerk and the Tax Assessor, and PIAs for District Attorney criminal record files
• Prepares legal briefs to the Texas Attorney General’s Office

Requirements

• Experience prosecuting the more complex general or special-category felony cases in assigned court
• Knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations relevant to the assigned area
• Ability to draft legal documents and conduct legal research
• Effective communication skills, particularly with defense attorneys, court personnel, and other stakeholders

Qualifications

• Admitted to practice law in Texas
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-approved law school
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant legal experience
