About the Role

The Pima County Attorney’s Office is looking for a part-time attorney to oversee the Green Valley Justice Court Precinct. This assignment offers a light caseload, significant autonomy, flexible scheduling, and a rewarding practice working with community members. Green Valley features one of the nation’s only diversionary programs for DUI offenders, providing accountability and treatment without imposing a conviction. Court coverage is expected two and a half days a week. Attorneys of all experience levels are welcome; those seeking an innovative, flexible environment will excel. This part-time position reports to 601 N La Canada Dr, Green Valley, Arizona and is exempt from the Pima County Merit System Rules.

Responsibilities

  • Prosecute or defend criminal or civil cases in Justice Court, Juvenile Court, Superior Court, Federal Court, and Appellate Courts, including misdemeanor, felony, dependency, delinquency, mental health, guardianship, conservatorship, probate administration, contract, tort, environmental, real estate, tax, child support, or appellate matters.
  • Represent County departments, boards, and commissions in civil litigation and administrative matters.
  • Engage in negotiations for compromise, settlement, and compliance with Victims’ Rights.
  • Handle pretrial, trial, post-trial, and appellate practice as required.
  • Prepare litigation, depose witnesses, provide witness notification, and conduct bench and jury trials.
  • Research legal questions and draft motions, pleadings, briefs, and other legal documents.
  • Review, evaluate, and participate in investigations.
  • Comply with all rules regulating professional responsibility.
  • Uphold the values and goals of the assigned Department and County.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate degree.
  • Admission to the Arizona State Bar at time of appointment, maintained in good standing.
  • Valid driver license at time of application; valid Arizona driver license at time of appointment.
  • Subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine suitability to operate county vehicles.

Schedule

Part-time position with court coverage expected two and a half days a week.

  • Occasionally remains in a stationary position or moves about inside an office.
  • Requires reaching, grasping, speaking in person and on the phone, and vision sufficient to operate a motor vehicle, distinguish colors, and have depth perception and peripheral vision.
