Pay Range: $84,947 - $161,387 Annually. Hiring range is an estimate; actual salary offer will consider skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.

About the Role

The Pima County Attorney’s Office is looking for a part-time attorney to oversee the Ajo Justice Court Precinct. This assignment offers a light caseload, significant autonomy, flexible scheduling, and a rewarding practice working with community members. Ajo benefits from a dedicated victim advocate for support and guidance. Court coverage is expected two and a half days a week. Attorneys of all experience levels are welcome, particularly those seeking a relaxed environment in a historic courthouse. This part-time position is located in Ajo, AZ (120 miles west of Tucson) and reports to 111 W La Mina Ave, Ajo, AZ.

Responsibilities

• Prosecutes or defends a variety of criminal or civil cases in Justice Court, Juvenile Court, Superior Court, Federal Court, and Appellate Courts, including misdemeanor, felony, dependency, delinquency, mental health, guardianship, conservatorship, probate administration, contract, tort, environmental, real estate, tax issues, child support, or appellate cases.
• Represents County departments, boards, and commissions in civil litigation and administrative matters.
• Engages in negotiations for compromise and settlement of cases and complies with Victims’ Rights.
• Handles pretrial, trial, post-trial, and appellate practice as required.
• Prepares litigation, deposes witnesses, provides witness notification, and conducts bench and jury trials.
• Researches legal questions and drafts legal motions, pleadings, briefs, and other legal documents.
• Reviews, evaluates, and participates in investigations.
• Complies with all rules regulating professional responsibility.
• Upholds the values and goals of the assigned Department and County.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate degree.
• Admission to the Arizona State Bar at time of appointment, maintained in good standing.
• Valid driver license at time of application; valid Arizona driver license required at time of appointment.
• Subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine suitability to operate county vehicles.
