About The Role You will work with individuals, families, business owners, and agricultural clients. You'll also work closely with our experienced attorneys in Sioux Falls and continue developing advanced planning skills, but since most mentoring will happen remotely, you should be comfortable handling trusts and core estate planning documents on your own from day one. Because the office is new, you'll help with business development by building relationships with clients and professional referral partners across the Des Moines, IA area. Key Responsibilities Meet with individuals, families, and farmers to design customized plansAdvise clients on elder law issues such as long-term care and Medicaid planningAdvise clients on special needs planning, guardianships and conservatorshipsHandle probate, trust administration, guardianship, and conservatorship mattersDraft wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and related estate planning documentsCollaborate with senior attorneys on advanced elder law and Medicaid strategiesBuild trusted relationships with clients and professional referral partnersHelp build the Johnston office's legal workflow and client service standardsGuide support staffStay in close contact with the Sioux Falls team so both offices run consistently Requirements Experience and background: Required: 1+ years of elder law planning experience, including trustsExcellent analytical, drafting, communication, and interpersonal skillsJ.D. from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in IowaLeadership ability and the drive to manage your cases without daily oversightA desire to build a long-term careerA collaborative mindset and commitment to delivering exceptional client serviceStrong attention to detail and outstanding organizational abilities Preferred: An established professional network in the Des Moines areaExperience with Iowa Medicaid and long-term care planning Why This Role Stands Out An attorney role in a new office, with room to grow in leadership and compensationWork closely with highly accomplished attorneys, including a Board-Certified Elder Law Attorney, while benefiting from hands-on mentorship and supportive leadership.
