About the role

We are looking for an Attorney to support a growing litigation practice in San Diego, California. This is a Contract position suited for a California-licensed lawyer with at least 3 years of experience handling civil and intellectual property disputes. The role focuses on strong written advocacy, case strategy, and hands-on participation across discovery, motion practice, depositions, and trial preparation.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, edit, and refine litigation materials such as pleadings, motions, briefs, and legal memoranda for matters in state and federal court.
  • Perform thorough legal research and turn findings into clear, persuasive written arguments that support case objectives.
  • Support trial readiness by helping shape case strategy, organizing exhibits, and coordinating witness-related preparation.
  • Take part in depositions by preparing witnesses, developing examination outlines, and handling testimony sessions as needed.
  • Manage discovery activities, including drafting written discovery requests, preparing responses, and reviewing production obligations.
  • Assess case facts and legal issues to identify risks, evaluate available options, and recommend practical next steps to clients and the litigation team.
  • Contribute to planning for resolution paths such as settlement discussions, mediation, and trial proceedings.
  • Appear at hearings, conferences, and negotiations when required to advance litigation matters.
  • Maintain accurate case records, monitor court deadlines, and ensure compliance with procedural requirements.
  • Work closely with partners and senior attorneys to strengthen litigation strategy and deliver clear, consistent client communication.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of litigation experience in California courts, with a strong emphasis on drafting motions, briefs, and other advocacy-focused filings.
  • Demonstrated background in both civil litigation and intellectual property litigation.
  • Solid experience with motion practice, including developing persuasive written submissions.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state court procedures, along with applicable local rules.
  • Ability to take and defend depositions with confidence and sound preparation.
  • Active membership in good standing with the California State Bar.
  • Proven ability to manage matters independently, take ownership of work product, and collaborate effectively with senior legal leadership.
