About the Role

We are seeking a self-starter who is three or more years into their legal career and who would be thrilled to make a lasting difference for school districts and the students they serve. This role involves building and maintaining deep client relationships, frequent public speaking and presentations, and handling administrative hearings and occasional court proceedings. The start date is flexible.

Critical Skills & Qualifications

• Relationship Building: Ability to build and maintain client relationships across many years and interact frequently with clients from day one.
• Communication: Strong written and oral communication skills, with comfort presenting to teachers, administrators, school board members, and students.
• Commitment to Public Education: A genuine dedication to the mission of public education.
• Licensing: Currently licensed in Nebraska, South Dakota, Wyoming, and/or Kansas, or the ability to obtain a license in one or more of those states. Personal ties to these or surrounding states are preferred but not required.

Preferred Experience

• Experience representing clients in administrative hearings or other litigation experience (we can train the right person without this background).
• Familiarity with substantive legal issues facing schools, such as labor and employment laws, disability laws (IDEA, Section 504, ADA), Title IX, First Amendment, and state laws governing open meetings and public records.

Work Environment & Arrangements

• Physical Locations: Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Lincoln, Nebraska.
• Remote Work: Hybrid and remote work arrangements are negotiable.
• Atmosphere: Casual, day-appropriate attire, and flexible work schedule, with remote work common among our attorneys.
• Workload: No set billable hours requirement. We track a holistic range of hours including presentations, creating on-demand content, tracking legislation, updating policies, CLEs, marketing, and networking. Workload minimums reflect hours across all areas.
