ATTENDING PHYSICIAN XII - ANGIO INTERVENTIONAL

Location: John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital, Department of Radiology

About the role

The Attending Physician XII in the Department of Radiology is responsible for the supervision and interpretation of diagnostic imaging studies within the hospital system. This position focuses on vascular/interventional services, requiring expertise in a wide variety of body and vascular interventional procedures, including peripheral vascular procedures and limited neuroradiology diagnostic procedures such as myelography.

Responsibilities

• Follows departmental and hospital policies
• Interprets radiologic studies in a timely manner
• Reviews dictation of final reports for studies in a timely manner
• Supervises Radiology residents and technologists when appropriate
• Reviews Radiology residents’ preliminary reports in a timely manner; reviews and corrects as necessary
• Participates in the education of residents, including didactic lecture preparation
• Provides radiologic consultative services for other clinical departments within Cook County Health & Hospitals System (CCHHS)
• Participates in multidisciplinary conferences as assigned
• Performs procedures in areas where clinical privileges are granted
• Provides coverage to various areas of the department and hospital as requested by the Chairman
• Participates in departmental and/or system-wide committees as assigned
• Participates in departmental and/or system-wide quality improvements/assurance efforts as assigned
• Maintains an educational environment conducive to educating residents
• Takes calls as assigned by the department chair, including remote review of studies
• Supervises, interprets, and promotes the use of routine and advanced diagnostic imaging techniques related to body imaging
• Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy Medicine (DO) from an accredited college or university (proof required at time of interview)
• Licensed physician in the State of Illinois or ability to obtain a license prior to beginning employment
• Board certified by the American Board of Radiology or American Board of Osteopathy Radiology, or if still in Fellowship training, has passed step 1 certification by the American Board of Radiology
• Successful completion of or current enrollment in an ACGME-accredited Fellowship training in Vascular/Interventional Radiology
• Must be in good standing with expected successful completion if currently in fellowship training
• Experience/training in interpretation of CT angiographic examinations
• Additional certification by the American Board of Radiology for vascular interventional or eligibility (proof required at time of interview)

Preferred Qualifications

• Recent research, publications, or presentations in Radiology
• Previous leadership roles such as Chief Resident

Skills

• Working knowledge and experience in a wide variety of body and vascular interventional procedures (e.g., TACE, TIPPS), including peripheral vascular procedures
• Working knowledge and experience with interpretation of CT angiographic examinations
• Knowledge of the principles and methods of training medical staff to ensure standards of care
• Skill in analyzing data/information accurately to determine and implement effective courses of action
• Skill in preparing written documents to provide information or direction to staff
• Effective communication skills to exchange or provide information and direction
• Ability to follow department-specific work rules, hospital, and personnel rules
• Attention to detail, accuracy, and precision in decision-making
• Ability to perform limited neuroradiology diagnostic procedures including myelography
• Adherence to department policies and standards, including best practices and appropriate use of the electronic health record (EHR)
• Ability to maintain professional demeanor and composure when challenged
• Ability to follow hospital protocol when exposed to noise, chemicals, disease, bloodborne pathogens, patient violence, and procedural injuries
• Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed
• Ability to travel to work sites throughout Cook County
• Ability to meet department and divisional productivity thresholds
• Ability to meet confidentiality standards for protected health information (PHI)
• Ability to provide appropriate patient care while maintaining fiduciary responsibility to patients
• Ability to demonstrate service to public health or underserved populations
