Position Summary / Job Goals
The Athletics Stipend Coach is responsible for coaching, developing, and mentoring student-athletes while promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, inclusion, and athletic excellence. The coach supports the mission of The Village School by helping students achieve success both on and off the field, court, pool, or competition venue. This position contributes to the overall success of the athletics program through effective leadership, program management, student development, and community engagement.
Qualifications / Training
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Sports Management, or a related field preferred.
- Current coaching certifications and sport-specific credentials as required.
- CPR, First Aid, and concussion training certifications preferred.
- Ability to meet all school, league, and regulatory requirements for coaching positions.
- Knowledge of TAPPS, HJPC, or applicable governing body rules and regulations.
Experience / Knowledge
- One or more years of coaching experience preferred.
- Experience working with middle school and/or high school student-athletes.
- Knowledge of sport-specific coaching strategies, player development, and team management.
- Experience organizing practices, competitions, and athletic events.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to manage budgets, equipment, uniforms, and athletic facilities.
- Understanding of student recruitment, retention, and athletic program development.

Major Responsibilities and Duties
Program Leadership and Coaching
- Coach and develop student-athletes in assigned sports programs.
- Plan and conduct practices, competitions, and team activities.
- Implement sport-specific training programs that promote skill development and teamwork.
- Evaluate student-athlete performance and provide constructive feedback.
- Promote sportsmanship, character development, and positive team culture.
Athletic Program Management
- Coordinate and administer assigned athletic programs.
- Assist with scheduling games, practices, officials, transportation, and event logistics.
- Ensure all athletes have completed required participation documentation before involvement in athletic activities.
- Maintain accountability for equipment, uniforms, facilities, and other school property.
- Assign and supervise responsibilities of assistant coaches when applicable.
Student Development and Communication
- Monitor student-athlete progress both academically and athletically.
- Communicate effectively with parents, school counselors, and administrators regarding student development.
- Serve as a positive ambassador for The Village School and its athletic programs.
- Support student recruitment and retention efforts in partnership with the Admissions team.
Compliance and Administration
- Ensure compliance with all school policies and applicable athletic governing body regulations.
- Maintain accurate records, rosters, grades, and required program documentation.
- Manage program budgets and fundraising activities as assigned.
- Provide information for athletic communications, marketing, and promotional efforts.
- Participate in coaches' meetings, committees, and professional development activities.
Professional Responsibilities
- Follow all school policies, procedures, and Coaches Handbook requirements.
- Maintain professional conduct and appropriate appearance while representing The Village School.
- Foster positive working relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community members.
- Stay current with communications and respond promptly to athletic program needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and Activities.
