Job Overview
The Athletics Administrator ensures compliance with Virginia High School League (VHSL) regulations while planning, organizing, and supervising all aspects of the athletic program, including facilities, scheduling, transportation, and coach orientation. It also represents the school at required meetings, oversees coaches and co-curricular activities, manages safety and equipment needs, coordinates approved fundraising, and contributes to committees focused on improving the overall athletic program.
Roles And Responsibilities
- Ensures compliance with the rules of the Virginia High School League and the Regional and District councils.
- Helps to plan, organize, and schedule the athletic programs; supervises and prepares the athletic game fields.
- Attends County, District, Regional, and State meetings as required; promotes positive public relations.
- Serves on special committees and attends work sessions involving continued growth and improvement of the total athletic program.
- Helps supervise coaches and sponsors in their co-curricular activities; inspects facilities, equipment, and supplies for the safety and well-being of the participants; coordinates fundraising activities as approved by the Principal; evaluates the athletic programs.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree
- Experience: Experience as a teacher, administrator, Athletic Director, or equivalent experience, preferably with accompanying coaching experience at the secondary level
- Licenses and Certifications: Possesses leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with athletes, coaches, students, school administrators, staff, parents, and the community. Demonstrates strong skills in oral and written communication and time management
Physical Requirements
- Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time.
- Erecting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
