Athletic Trainer PRN, Variable

About the Role

Performs a wide variety of duties requiring specific knowledge of the hospital's policies and procedures. Meets the hospital's professional, clinical, technical, communication, and documentation requirements and standards to make decisions based on established guidelines. Demonstrates competent professionalism and courtesy during frequent interactions with management/administration, doctors, allied healthcare professionals, patients, the general public, and local schools, hospitals, and sports teams.

Responsibilities

• Provides athletic training services to athletes at appointed high school and any other assigned school(s) or site as required.
• Utilizes appropriate, sound, and up-to-date clinical techniques to effectively assess and treat athletic injuries.
• Demonstrates basic knowledge of diagnosis/conditions seen in the profession of Athletic Training.
• Selects, performs, and interprets the results of Athletic Training (ATC) examinations of appropriate systems.
• Performs and interprets standardized assessments as determined by the appropriateness for the athlete.
• Identifies actual or potential problems that would impact the Athletic Training regimen as well as the overall inter-disciplinary care.
• Establishes a specific treatment plan and goals based on the result of the initial assessment, considering all aspects of the athlete's condition: age, education level, cultural background, and/or any other services the athlete is receiving.
• Communicates with appropriate members including physicians, rehab, parent/guardian, athletic directors, coaches, and strength coaches.
• Documents athlete status in designated Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or equivalent.
• Provides timely payroll information.
• Provides oversight and mentoring to new team members, Graduate Assistants, and students.
• Completes annual mandatory computer-based training, competency review, and required employee health testing.
• Represents the organization as an outreach team member.
• Attends coaches/parent meetings as available.
• Provides athletic training services at sponsored sporting events (Special Events).
• Seeks related tasks in downtime and performs other duties as assigned.
• Provides supplemental hospital staffing in times of need.
• Coordinates pre- and post-participation exams and acquires protective equipment for athletes as needed.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
• Complies with all policies regarding healthcare delivery as indicated and outlined within the Athletic Injury Management section of the assigned school or school district.
• Assists the school with the management of infection risks and protocols in athletics.
• Provides care in conjunction with DHEC and/or district guidelines.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology, Athletic Training, or Physical Education with an Athletic Training emphasis. Master's degree preferred.
• No previous experience required.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
• SC LLR Licensure as an Athletic Trainer is required for team members working in South Carolina.
• BOC (Board of Certification) for Athletic Training required.

Skills

• Knowledge of office equipment.
• Data entry and mathematical skills.
• Knowledge of patient equipment such as vitals, suction, and defibrillators.
• Knowledge of basic sports medicine equipment.
• Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and return-to-play decisions per state certification guidelines and concussion law.
