Athletic Trainer

Exercise and Sport Science Department, University of Wisconsin-La Crosse – part-time (64% average, 27 hrs/wk with full benefits) 9-month contract.

About the role

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Athletic Training Program, the first accredited program in Wisconsin, seeks an Athletic Trainer to serve as the preceptor for its highly competitive, hands-on graduate program. Responsibilities include creating and maintaining a professional learning environment in the athletic training center, supervising and evaluating graduate athletic training students during clinical experiences, and assisting with athletic training services as requested by the Director of Athletic Training Services. Additional duties include teaching, research, and other tasks assigned by the Athletic Training Program Director or Director of Clinical Education.

The College of Science & Health (CSH) at UW-La Crosse serves over half of all undergraduates across natural, physical, computational, and health sciences. Non-instructional staff play a vital role in supporting academic programs, research, and student services, including lab operations, clinical placements, and experiential learning initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Advise, develop, and implement injury/illness prevention plans, emergency protocols, and environmental monitoring to ensure participant safety during practices, events, and competitions.
• Evaluate, treat, and rehabilitate injuries/illnesses in consultation with healthcare professionals, following established practices and protocols.
• Coordinate patient care, make referrals to medical resources, and provide injury/illness evaluations in collaboration with medical professionals.
• Serve as an onsite healthcare provider for assigned teams during practices, competitions, or special events, ensuring proper injury/illness treatment and emergency response.
• Supervise and evaluate graduate athletic training students during clinical experiences.
• Assist with teaching, research, and other duties as assigned by the Athletic Training Program Director or Director of Clinical Education.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• BOC certification.
• Wisconsin Licensure as an Athletic Trainer (or eligibility).
• Related athletic training experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree.
• Previous clinical teaching experience.
