Under the general guidance and supervision of the Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Medicine, Director of Athletics, and Team Physicians, the Assistant Athletic Trainer supports comprehensive athletic medicine services through injury care, medical coordination, recordkeeping, and daily clinic operations while contributing to athlete wellbeing and performance outcomes across intercollegiate programs. This position is temporary and expected to last no more than 9 months. Work location: On‑site.

Responsibilities

• 55% – Manage all aspects of prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for approximately 370 student‑athletes at UCCS and on the road.
• 25% – Maintain updated files and accurate medical records of athletic injuries, medical insurance, medical history, injury referrals, conditioning programs, schedules, and other necessary data.
• 10% – Maintain regular clear communication between athletic medicine staff, coaches, student athletes, and other UCCS employees as needed to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the student athletes.
• 5% – Coordinate clinical and physician appointments between the athlete and UCHealth or outside referral.
• 5% – Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree in athletic training, physical education, kinesiology, or related field of study, or combination of education and experience providing the required knowledge and abilities to be an athletic trainer.
• Master’s degree in a related field preferred.
• Current Board of Certification (BOC) certification for Athletic Trainer.
• Current Colorado State athletic training licensure.
• CPR/AED certification.
• Current unrestricted license with the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA).
• Adherence to the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Code of Ethics.
• Experience in medical documentation standards and electronic health record systems, with the ability to maintain accurate, confidential records and efficiently track athlete health information, insurance details, and care plans in compliance with regulatory and organizational requirements.
• Experience with athletic injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation techniques, with the ability to make sound clinical judgments and develop effective, individualized recovery programs that support safe return‑to‑play outcomes.

Benefits

• Eligible to accrue sick leave at a rate of 0.034 hours per hour worked.
• Not eligible for paid vacation leave, medical, or retirement benefits (temporary appointment).

Pay

Salary/Pay Range: $40.00 - $45.00 hourly.
