Responsibilities

  • Prevent, assess, and treat athletic-related injuries sustained by student-athletes.
  • Direct student-athletes through medical treatment and rehabilitation activities.
  • Provide first aid and physical therapy to promote healing and relieve soreness.
  • Prescribe routine and corrective exercises to strengthen muscles.
  • Prepare student-athletes for practice and competition.
  • Educate student-athletes on sports safety protocols, injury prevention, rehabilitation initiatives, proper hydration, and fueling.
  • Conduct baseline concussion testing for designated athletic teams.
  • Follow and manage emergency plans for all venues in the event of acute injuries; recommend changes to established emergency plans.
  • Coordinate GCU and NCAA Drug Testing Program.
  • Maintain complete medical records filing system in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Maintain records for insurance submittal for athletically related injuries.
  • Act as liaison between student-athletes, coaches, administration, parents, medical personnel, and other support staff regarding health and welfare.
  • Coordinate medical referrals to outside medical specialists as needed.
  • Organize Athletic Training Staff (ATS) schedule of training room coverage.
  • Coordinate treatment for student-athletes during travel times.
  • Recommend special diets to build up health and wellness.
  • Coordinate activities with Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) professors.
  • Consult medical physician as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in athletic training required; Master’s degree in related field preferred.
  • 2+ years’ experience working with athletes in a university or high school environment.
  • Certified Athletic Trainer by the Board of Certification (BOC) of Athletic Trainers.
  • Current Arizona Licensure required.
  • CPR, AED, First Aid Certified.
  • Active NATA, RMATA, AZATA membership.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check.
  • Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement, and Mission.

Skills

  • Former competitive athlete (high school or NCAA) – a plus.
  • CSCS Certification – a plus.
  • Prior experience covering Baseball – a plus.
  • Manual therapy-based skillsets (ART, IASTM, FRC) – a plus.
  • Dry needling – a plus.
  • Experience taking biomechanic courses (PRI) – a plus.
