Brown University Athletics and Recreation is seeking candidates for an Athletic Trainer position. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, and a member of the Ivy League, our intercollegiate athletics program consists of 38 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes who participate within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA-DI).

About the role

This role provides medical care and health education to ensure the safety of, reduce the risk of injury to, and guide the rehabilitation of Brown student-athletes under the guidance of the Associate Director of Athletics, Sports Medicine. The position will serve as primary athletic trainer for sports as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Provide medical care and health education to student-athletes
  • Reduce the risk of injury and guide rehabilitation for student-athletes
  • Serve as primary athletic trainer for assigned sports
  • Demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations
  • Perform duties in compliance with all NCAA and Ivy League rules and regulations
  • Report any rules violations or knowledge of violations within the division to the appropriate parties
  • Maintain current AED/CPR and First Aid certification (provided at no cost through the Division)
  • Attend all required divisional and/or NCAA training/education programs
  • Receive annual rules education on NCAA legislation related to recruiting (for coaching positions)

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Rhode Island Athletic Training License (to be obtained prior to hire date)
  • Board of Certification (BOC) for athletic training (NATABOC Certification)
  • Maintain BOC continuing education units (CEUs) every reporting period
  • A minimum of one year of relevant athletic training experience
  • Appropriate Emergency Cardiac Care certification as required by the BOC
  • Pass the NCAA Coaches Certification Test (for coaching positions)

Qualifications

  • Manual therapy certification preferred
  • Experience with electronic medical records system (helpful)

  • Strong work ethic and passion for the profession
  • Commitment to student-athletes
  • Basic proficiency in Excel, Word, internet, and email capabilities
