About the role
This position is responsible for supervising employees and managing the hospitality shops within UNC Hospitals.
Responsibilities
- Emulates a pleasant, helpful, and friendly relationship with members of the public and maintains a safe environment for employees and customers.
- Operates the register and assists customers when short-staffed.
- Maintains a consistent and deliberate purchasing schedule to avoid under- or over-buying, ensuring the store's bottom-line profitability.
- Manages the computer inventory system.
- Maintains a consistent and productive inventory by assessing needs with regard to special and financial parameters, selecting current and competitive merchandise aligned with the store’s image, placing orders on a timely basis, paying attention to seasonal purchases, attending gift shows, and staying informed of market trends and new products to maximize inventory turnover and minimize excessive back stock.
- Maintains accurate records for compliance with annual state inventory requirements and UNCHCS policies and procedures.
- Conducts annual shop inventory.
- Maintains compliance with shop policies as outlined in the volunteer policy manual and equipment guides.
- Evaluates the needs of the shops, planned growth, and overall shop affairs in conjunction with a committee of volunteers.
- Oversees daily store operations, including completing individual store deposits, keeping supplies stocked, maintaining equipment, organizing storage areas, and ensuring adequate stock levels for flowers.
- Communicates regularly with the director regarding gift shop operations.
- Trains and supervises shop personnel and volunteers.
- Informs staff and volunteers of pertinent shop and UNCHCS policies, procedures, and new products.
- Provides recognition to volunteers as appropriate.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required; a higher-level degree may satisfy this requirement.
- Two years of supervisory experience in retail sales, including inventory control.
Schedule
Per Diem, 10 hours per week, variable schedule.
Work Details
- Hybrid work arrangement.
- Exempt from overtime.
