Athletic Field Technician - Montgomery Parks - Seasonal

About the role

The Montgomery County Department of Parks is seeking motivated individuals to join the Athletic Field Team as an Athletic Field Technician. This position involves performing skilled athletic field maintenance and renovation work, general grounds maintenance, and operating various pieces of equipment.

Responsibilities

• Performs turfgrass tasks including infield maintenance, mowing, edging, aeration, seeding, nutrient management, and sod removal/installation.
• Operates equipment such as trucks, tractors with attachments, sod installation equipment, zero-turn mowers, and walk behind aerification equipment.
• Carries out general grounds maintenance tasks such as leaf collection, litter cleanup, hardscapes repair, fencing repair, weeding, surface removal, removing fallen trees, pruning, and snow removal.
• Communicates concerns and needs regarding the project or athletic field and equipment.
• May occasionally work alone on projects and may be required to drive Commission vehicles after completing defensive driving training.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• No experience or training is necessary except for specialized skills or licenses/certificates directly related to the job.

Qualifications

• One year of outdoor landscape industry experience in lawncare, grounds maintenance, athletic field maintenance/renovation, or equivalent.
• Ability to communicate in another language is preferred.

Skills

• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to understand and carry out verbal and/or written instructions.
• Attention to detail.

Benefits

This position is seasonal and does not include a benefits package. Salaries are based on experience.

Schedule

Work hours are 5:30 am – 2:00 pm and can include days, evenings, weekends, and holiday work.
