Position Summary
The Athletic Coordinator is responsible for the coordination, administration and implementation of a comprehensive athletics program for coaches and students enrolled at local high schools. The position involves overseeing all major functions of athletics, supervising coaches, coordinating sports programs, ensuring compliance with policies and guidelines, managing budgets, and maintaining facilities.
Essential Functions
- Oversee all major functions of athletics at local high schools.
- Be available for after school, evenings/weekend practices, events and meets.
- Maintain punctuality and good attendance.
- Monitor scholar-athletes academic eligibility performance, attendance, behavior, training and development of their individual athletic ability.
- Serve as a supervisor for all athletics participating coaches in the building.
- Coordinate the sports program in collaboration with the school’s Principal/Administrator/Coaching staff.
- Observe and administer all school and District policies.
- Ensure the organization and seasonal/annual inventory of all equipment.
- Ensure regular programs of practice in and out of season and study table for athletes.
- Submit all administrative materials by the deadline.
- Work closely with the Office of Athletics when scheduling interscholastic contests and officials/umpires.
- Schedule and coordinate coaches' end of the season/evaluations.
- Ensure maintenance of necessary background clearance forms, eligibility forms, physical forms, attendance forms, insurance records and similar paperwork for all student athletes and coaches.
- Oversee safety conditions of the facilities or areas and ensure that medical personal are present for assigned sports.
- Ensure game officials/umpires are present for scheduled events and that Site Coordinators complete and submit timely payment forms for game staff and officials/umpires.
- Administer the athletic programs in accordance with state, conference, and District by-laws.
- Ensure that all coaches, assistant coaches and volunteers have met the minimum and mandatory certification requirements to remain in compliance with state, conference and district guidelines: MHSAA CAP 1-2 (mandatory), MHSAA Online Rules Meeting (mandatory), AED and Heart Saver CPR Certification (mandatory).
- Manage the athletic budget of the school in accordance with the District’s cash management and audit procedures.
- Prepare and submit all required budgetary information for both schools.
- Follows District’s guidelines regarding school policies and financial transactions.
- Prepare reports, inventory and recommendations for equipment.
- Provide an atmosphere conducive to good sportsmanship at all times.
- Ensure that adequate supervision is provided for all students involved in athletic programs: provides for the safety of participants and spectators by inspecting facilities and equipment and being aware of environmental conditions.
