Athletic Assistant Coach Track and Field Throws Coach

Purpose and Scope

The Athletic Assistant Coach Track and Field Throws Coach position at Xavier College Preparatory serves under the supervision of the principal and the athletic director. The role involves assisting the head coach in teaching fundamental skills, strategies, and training necessary for individual and team success, adhering to NFHS, AZIA, Diocese of Phoenix, school, and conference guidelines.

Essential Job Functions

• Assists the head coach in instructing athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and training for individual and team success, promoting the Pursuing Victory with Honor Program.
• Ensures the venue for track and field throws is safe and all equipment is within regulation, safe, properly maintained, and inventoried.
• Supervises and assists in evaluating the performance of the coaching staff and the overall functioning of the track and field throws program.
• Maintains appropriate and open communication with faculty, staff, and parents regarding the track and field throws program; advises student-athletes on academics and assists with college recruiting and scholarship applications.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required

• Able to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Preference given to Catholic teachers meeting Diocese of Phoenix requirements for employment.
• Completed Safe Environment Training and signed the Code of Conduct.
• FBI fingerprint clearance completed.
• A current Arizona State driver’s license desirable.
• In good physical condition.
• Initiative, creativity, problem-solving skills, good judgment, ability to handle different personalities and situations, sense of humor, active listening, communication skills, positive attitude, cooperative work ethic, and delegation abilities.
• Knowledge and understanding of good teaching techniques and child psychology.
