AT - Contract Specific CDL Driver Trainer

About the Role

This position is responsible for all driver training functions for the CDL training program at an assigned location. The CDL Driver Trainer will work under the guidance of the Program Director, Lead Driver Trainer, or their designee, providing training for an Ancora Training contracted company and their employees in six consecutive 9-week cohorts. Due to the nature of the role, occasional travel to another location may be required.

• Fulfills Administrative Responsibilities
  • Maintains accurate, up-to-date records of student progress, performance, and attendance using provided tools and technology.
  • Maintains flexibility in fulfilling the instructional needs of the division/client.
• Delivers Instructional Material
  • Trains students in all areas of trucking/driving, including pre-trip inspections, air-brake tests, and CDL driving essentials (e.g., straight-line backing, offset backing, 45-degree alley-docking, parallel parking).
  • Administers written tests on classroom material and evaluates grades.
  • Instructs shifting patterns for various driving conditions (highway, city, night vs. day, different weather).
  • Utilizes effective delivery skills (e.g., eye contact, voice intonation, questioning techniques).
  • Draws on personal experiences to relate material and assesses student progress through required skills evaluations.

Requirements

• Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with the required class level for the position.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• 3 years of verifiable on-the-road experience within the last 5 years.
• Ability to pass MVR and background checks, including a drug screening.
• Ability to pass a DOT physical and maintain a valid Medical Examiner Certificate.
• Ability to pass DOT drug tests upon hire and on an ongoing basis.
• Knowledge of pre-trip inspections, air-brake tests, and CDL driving essentials (e.g., backing maneuvers, parallel parking).
• Ability to instruct shifting patterns for various driving conditions.

Physical Demands

• Mobility & Balance: Ability to frequently climb in/out of the cab, bend, squat, kneel, twist, and reach for inspections and tight spaces.
• Strength: Ability to crank trailer landing gear (often 100+ lbs), handle training equipment, and potentially assist with loading/unloading.
• Endurance: Ability to sustain physical activity and alertness during extended driving and instructional periods, including exposure to varying weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, rain, ice, or snow).
• Sensory Acuity and Overall Health: Must possess and maintain a valid DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate and meet DOT physical qualifications for holding a CDL.
• Specific Tasks:
  • Physically demonstrating skills such as coupling/uncoupling trailers, inspections, and maneuvering large vehicles.
  • Working outdoors in extreme weather conditions during training.

Work Environment
