AT - Contract Specific CDL Driver Trainer

About the role

This position will be responsible for all driver training functions for the CDL training program at their assigned location. The CDL Driver Trainer will have proven longevity in the field, excellent communication skills, and possess demonstrated physical, intellectual, and leadership ability to perform duties over the road, maneuvering range, and in classroom instruction.

Responsibilities

Promotes and Maintains a Positive Learning Environment, including maintaining a thorough knowledge and understanding of all policies, convening all assigned classes, maintaining a safe environment, and safeguarding materials, records, and equipment. The CDL Driver Trainer will also fulfill administrative responsibilities, deliver instructional material, and train students in all areas of trucking/driving.

• Maintains accurate, up-to-date records of student progress, performance, and attendance
• Delivers Instructional Material, including training students in all areas of trucking/driving, administering written tests, and conducting pre-trip inspections
• Utilizes effective delivery skills and draws on personal experiences to relate the material presented
• Utilizes required skills assessments to evaluate student progress in the skills required to successfully pass and obtain their Commercial Driver’s License

Requirements

• Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), the Class level must meet the required level of the position
• High School Diploma or GED
• 3 years of verifiable on-the-road experience within the last 5 years
• MVR and background check, which includes a drug screening
• Ability to pass a DOT physical and DOT drug screen
• Ability to maintain a valid Medical Examiner Certificate and pass DOT drug tests upon hire and on an ongoing basis, when applicable

Skills

• Knowledge of procedures for and ability to execute a pre-trip inspection, air-brake tests, and CDL driving essentials
• Ability to instruct shifting patterns and maintain vehicle equipment

• Excellent presentation skills and ability to present ideas effectively to individuals or groups in a formal setting

• Proficiency in technology, including Microsoft office suite, Google suite, and cloud-based applications

Physical Demands

The CDL Driver Trainer must be able to frequently climb in/out of the cab, bend, squat, kneel, twist, and reach to perform pre/post-trip inspections and navigate tight spaces. They must also be able to crank trailer landing gear, handle training and safety equipment, and potentially assist with loading/unloading.

• Ability to sustain physical activity and be alert during extending driving and instructional periods, including exposure to varying weather conditions
• Must possess and maintain a valid DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate and meet DOT physical qualifications required to hold a CDL, with or without reasonable accommodations, as required by Federal regulations
