About the Role
Support student-athlete development in wrestling and assist the Shepard Athletic Department mission and vision statement.
Responsibilities
- Assist the head coach in teaching wrestling fundamentals, strategies, and sportsmanship.
- Oversee competition level assigned by head coach.
- Supervise student-athletes during practices, meets, travel, and related events.
- Attend and actively participate in all scheduled practices, meets (home and away), and team functions.
- Support the head coach in planning practices and conducting skill instruction.
- Monitor and enforce all eligibility, safety, and conduct requirements as established by IHSA, the school, and district policies.
- Chaperone and supervise athletes at all wrestling events (including practices, meets, community gatherings, etc.), maintaining discipline and promoting a positive team environment.
- Maintain a safe environment and report injuries promptly to appropriate staff.
- Complete required paperwork, attendance logs, and communicate with parents and administration as needed.
- Attend coach meetings and required professional development as assigned by the athletic department.
- Assist with equipment management, set-up, and breakdown for practices and meets.
- Attend community events (such as parades, fundraisers, etc.).
- Foster academic achievement, positive citizenship, and school spirit among student-athletes.
- Complete required first aid, CPR, and district coaching certifications as required by ISBE/IHSA and adhere to all training expectations.
Additional Expectations
- Availability to work in the off season.
Qualifications
- Previous high school wrestling coaching experience preferred.
Pay
Stipend Category: III (Wrestling Assistant Coach; see contract Appendix II for placement). Individuals hired from outside CHSD 218 as seasonal coaches or activity sponsors receive only the contractual stipend for the assignment.
Benefits
Board-provided employee benefits (including health, dental, life insurance, leave, and participation in district retirement plans) are not available to external hires in these roles. For benefit eligibility, an individual must be a contracted district employee.
