About the Role

Gilbane is seeking an Assistant Superintendent to independently supervise an area of trade contractors with work valued up to $30M. This full-time, on-site role is a key part of the project team, providing extensive career growth opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Directs the day-to-day coordination of Gilbane’s trade partners and their sub-contractors to ensure high-quality work that meets the approved project schedule.
  • Develops, documents, and communicates the work plan regarding changes made in the field.
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of contract documents to proactively anticipate potential problems.
  • Participates in constructability review and identifies change impacts.
  • Obtains or verifies that subcontractors obtain all necessary permits for construction purposes.
  • Acts as primary safety representative in the field.
  • Establishes credibility among owners, trade contractors, unions, and other project partners by maintaining a fair and trustworthy environment.
  • Leads contractor meetings on a regular basis.
  • Maintains daily reports and documentation using software tools.
  • Creates, manages, and updates the project schedule, implementing contingency plans when necessary.
  • Communicates schedule status, updates, and changes to the project team and trade contractors.
  • Plans, coordinates, and manages jobsite logistics.
  • Oversees project quality plan, completes inspections, and implements necessary changes.
  • Communicates with Site Services/Next 150 to order materials and schedule crew.
  • Coaches and mentors less experienced Field Engineers on project needs, construction knowledge, and business acumen.
  • Understands scopes of work; assists in writing scopes of work and participates in buyout.
  • Assists in Time and Materials (T&M) tracking.
  • Leads stretch and flex, daily huddle, and pre-task plan reviews.
  • Supports a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • May be required to assist with tasks typically assigned to more junior positions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management.
  • 4-8 years of experience on $15-$30 million or larger commercial/industrial construction projects in a superintendent role.
  • OSHA 30-hour certified.
  • STS-C Certification.
  • First Aid, CPR, AED, Stop the Bleed Training.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills

  • Strong technical and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills; ability to adapt to changing needs.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate daily with the project team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and construction software tools, including scheduling software.
  • Construction-document and drawing literate, with knowledge of all phases of construction.
  • Experience and proficiency in multiple divisions of work, methods, materials, scheduling, and cost control.
  • Strong knowledge and appreciation of construction safety processes; ability to enforce the project safety plan.
  • Ability to create an environment where “safety first” is the culture.
  • Understanding of general requirements financial forecasting.
