Associate Vice President of Facilities Management - Campus Services
About the Role
Reports to the Vice President for Campus Services, overseeing all maintenance, grounds, and custodial operations for Emory University, including the Oxford, Briarcliff, and Clairmont campuses. Responsible for the campus utility infrastructure and provides leadership in creating short- and long-term energy strategies to reduce utility consumption while ensuring high-quality, reliable, and affordable utilities.
Functional areas include preventive maintenance, grounds, roads and hardscape, building services, waste management, recycling, steam plant, HVAC, engineering, controls, security systems, and zone maintenance. Oversees negotiation of contracts for safety, environmental, and maintenance operations.
Manages a staff and has indirect supervision of approximately 650 employees working three shifts, with some operations scheduled 24/7. Responsible for addressing all emergency situations in the facilities area. Participates in formulating and implementing strategic decisions for Campus Services and provides leadership in enterprise-wide visioning and implementation of sustainability initiatives.
Assists the Vice President with projecting, allocating, and adjusting staffing levels and organizational structure to meet changing conditions. Oversees the development of policies and procedures for Facilities Management. Interacts with internal and external customers and makes presentations to departments and campus constituents on facility-related topics. Represents Campus Services on university committees.
Responsibilities

- Oversee preventive maintenance, grounds, roads, hardscape, building services, waste management, recycling, and utility operations (steam plant, HVAC, engineering, controls, security systems).
- Negotiate contracts for safety, environmental, and maintenance operations.
- Manage a team and indirectly supervise approximately 650 employees across three shifts, including 24/7 operations.
- Respond to and address all emergency situations in facilities.
- Participate in strategic decision-making for Campus Services and lead sustainability initiatives.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, or a related field (required).
- Master’s degree (preferred).
- Ten years of experience in building operation and maintenance, including progressive, demonstrated management/supervisory experience.
- Working knowledge of capital construction and federal, state, and local building codes.
Schedule
This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based on business needs. Schedule is based on agreed-upon guidelines of the department. Operations may require 24/7 availability for emergencies.

This role requires residency in the state of Georgia. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to the employee.
