About the Role

Reporting to the Vice President of Student Affairs (VPSA), the AVP is a member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team and has major responsibility for the overall direction and management of the programs and services under their leadership.

Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To

  • Provide visionary leadership, supervision and strategic direction for a comprehensive suite of student affairs services, programs, and initiatives aimed at promoting student success.
  • Ensure these services contribute to a healthy campus community.
  • Provide administrative and budgetary oversight as well as overall supervision, training, and accountability for the departments in their portfolio.
  • Ensure funding model for portfolio aligns with goals, advocate for additional funding as needed, and utilize assessment data to make appropriate increases and/or reductions across areas within portfolio.
  • Develop, implement, and assess policies and procedures, comprehensive programs and services that address the needs of the campus community.
  • Foster innovation in the student experience, promoting data-driven strategies, ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with institutional goals.
  • Ensure efficient allocation of resources, financial accountability, and alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication channels with internal and external stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, and community partners.
  • Foster collaborative relationships to support student success and well-being, and represent the university in various forums to advocate for student needs and institutional priorities.
  • Act as a thought leader in the areas of student transitions and support, leadership, engagement, fraternity and sorority life, and career development interpreting and upholding federal, state, and university policies.
  • Advocate for student needs and promote student success.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in a relevant field and have a minimum of 8-10 years of work experience, including progressively responsible positions within an educational setting and significant management experience in student affairs or a similar setting. Proven experience in developing leaders, supervising teams, and managing budgets in a complex environment is essential.

Preferred Qualifications

Doctorate Degree in a relevant field is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • An in-depth understanding of student development, leadership principles and fiscal management.
  • Understanding of the dynamics within a college/university setting; knowledge of student needs; strong project management and problem-solving skills; ability to organize material, analyze data, and prepare reports and recommendations; excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships, with a commitment to work as part of a university-wide community; demonstrated commitment to fostering a collaborative and respectful campus environment.

Schedule

Normal work hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., and Friday 8:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Must be flexible to meet the special scheduling needs of the university. 37.5 hours per week; 12 mo. basis.
